Look stupidly out of the laundry

“Looking stupidly out of the laundry” is a German saying, but where does the saying come from anyway? During World War II, there were “laundry soldiers” whose job was to drive through the lines and collect dirty laundry. Rather simple-minded men were assigned to this task, who then looked stupidly out of the mountains of laundry.
