Protective clothing in particular must be cleaned gently and also thoroughly. We have compiled the most important information for you:

What is protective clothing for rescue services and fire brigades?
Protective clothing for firefighters and emergency services means protective clothing in accordance with the EN469 standard, or protective clothing that meets the requirements profile of the production and testing description for universal protective fireproof clothing (HuPF).

Why is professional cleaning of protective clothing so important?
Professional cleaning of protective clothing is important for several reasons.
It is vital that the non-flammable or flame-retardant properties of the clothing are retained. Therefore, proper and gentle cleaning is essential.
This means, for example, that all Velcro fasteners and zips are closed or covered during cleaning. Otherwise, these components could damage the clothing.
Professional cleaning of protective clothing is important not only for protecting the integrity of the clothing, but also for protecting the emergency services workers and firefighters. Protective clothing often gets extremely dirty. Substances containing soot, oil and grease that have not been properly removed can affect the health of the firefighters or emergency services workers. In the worst case, substances in protective clothing that have not been removed can be carcinogenic.

What is the best washing machine for protective clothing?
Essentially: Only freely programmable washing machines with a capacity of at least 14 kg may be used for washing protective clothing. Our high-speed ATOLL washer extractor is perfectly suited for this.
It is also important to ensure that when using the machine, you do not exceed 75% capacity, so as to minimise mechanical stress on the protective clothing.

Why should protective clothing not be cleaned in conventional washing machines?
As a general rule, protective clothing should be washed separately so as to not impair its properties and to prevent flammable materials from sticking to other items of clothing.
Only in a freely programmable washing machine do you have the option to control the following parameters based on your requirements: Water level, temperatures, addition of detergent via a dosing system.

What is the optimum washing program for protective clothing?

In principle, you should follow the cleaning instructions on the respective label on the item of protective clothing. These are always binding and optimal for the piece of protective clothing. The following instructions cannot replace the information on the care label and only apply in conjunction with them.
Only specially approved detergents intended specifically for the washing of protective clothing may be used. Household detergent, fabric softener, bleach or normal powder detergent must not be used. The protective clothing should be washed on a gentle cycle. The gentle wash cycle should cycle between 15 seconds of drum movement and 15 seconds of standstill. We recommend a liquor ratio of 1:6. A total of three rinsing baths with a liquor ratio of 1:8 should be carried out. This ensures that all surfactants and alkalis have been removed.
