The Wartberg Laundry in Bremen processes about 1.5 metric tons of laundry every day. The facility specializes in laundry from the hotel and restaurant industries, but private customers can also have their laundry professionally cleaned here. From Monday through Friday, two drivers handle the pickup and delivery service, while the machines in the laundry facility run at full capacity. One of Wartberg Laundry’s special services is the „Ships Laundry Service“: In 2023, the company was even awarded the RWin Special Prize by the trade magazine R+WTextilservice for its full-service offering for ships. The family-owned business has been cleaning ship laundry for three generations now, ever since demand surged in the postwar period due to growth in the shipping industry. Today, using its own delivery service, the company mainly picks up ship laundry in Bremen and Bremerhaven and delivers it back on time, ensuring that ships undergoing drydocking—as well as passenger ships—have access to a reliable, comprehensive service.
The family-owned business employs a total of 18 people, including drivers, laundry staff, and an office worker. Founded in 1926, the company is now run by Christoph Wartberg, the fourth generation of the family to lead it.
Because large quantities of flat linens and table linens are processed here every day, the MASTERROLL multi-roller trough calenders and the STARFOLD folding machine on the calendering line are in constant use. When purchasing the equipment a year and a half ago, owner Christoph Wartberg also opted for the SERVANT feeding aid with an additional clamp—this simplifies feeding into the mangle and makes operation easier for employees. A special consideration during the planning phase with STAHL was the laundry’s space constraints: Its location in a residential area precludes any expansion of the facility, yet a solution was needed that could handle the high volume of laundry. „Unlike competitors, STAHL was extremely solution-oriented and accommodated our structural requirements,“ explains Christoph Wartberg. Uwe STAHL visited the site several times to discuss the possibilities for a custom-built ironing machine. A design engineer also came to Bremen to discuss the details, and Christoph Wartberg traveled to Sindelfingen to consult with STAHL’s staff at their factory regarding the equipment. STAHL developed a tailor-made concept for a customized solution.
In addition to the Mangelstraße location, the Wartberg laundry facility has also acquired an ATOLL washing machine, which is in operation alongside several older machines—these are to be gradually replaced with machines from STAHL.
