The Speyer Animal Shelter is operated by the Speyer Animal Welfare Association (Tierschutzverein Speyer e. V.) and cares for about 300 animals. In addition to dogs and cats, small animals such as rabbits also find a temporary home there. Daily life at the shelter revolves around care, feeding, and cleaning—tasks that the staff members handle themselves. This also includes washing the textiles that accumulate each day.
Blankets, covers, towels, and cleaning rags are washed on-site by the staff. Clean linens are an important part of daily work, especially when caring for animals: They contribute to the animals’ well-being and help maintain a hygienic environment.
For over a year now, the Speyer Animal Shelter has been using a ATOLL 120 E Industrial Washing Machine and the T 234 E Clothes Dryer by STAHL. Previously, the shelter used household washing machines, which could not withstand the heavy workload over the long term. At the shelter, the machines run for many hours every day—Uwe Grimm, the association’s chairman, estimates that they run about 10 to 15 wash cycles per day.
The professional technology ensures that even heavily soiled textiles, such as pet blankets, can be cleaned reliably. The washing machine’s sturdy lint trap is particularly helpful in this regard, as it efficiently captures pet hair. The dryer enables short drying times, so the laundry is ready for use quickly—an important factor in day-to-day operations.
In addition to performance, cost-effectiveness also plays a key role for the animal shelter. As a nonprofit organization, the animal welfare association must manage its financial resources responsibly.
Uwe Grimm, president of the Animal Welfare Association, gives a positive assessment after the first year with STAHL: „STAHL’s machines impress with their maximum reliability and low maintenance costs during operation. We are very satisfied with the solution.“
Thanks to its sturdy equipment, the Speyer Animal Shelter is well-equipped to handle its daily laundry needs and can focus on its core mission: caring for and looking after the animals.
