Since late fall 2020, the Neuburg an der Donau Fire Department The uniforms of eleven local fire departments are laundered in their own laundry facilities using STAHL laundry machines.
Before setting up its own fire department laundry facility, an outside laundry service handled the cleaning of protective gear. It took about 10–14 days for the freshly laundered uniforms to be returned and ready for the next call. That is why the Neuburg an der Donau Fire Department decided to set up its own laundry facility. The application process, consultation, bidding, and installation were all completed in just one year.
Since late 2020, the laundry room has been located in a separate area of the vehicle hangar. In addition to an ATOLL 290 (29 kg), the team opted for a drying cabinet, which was easy to set up thanks to its practical condensation drying system and 230 V connection.
The fire department now washes between one and three loads per day, each consisting of six complete sets. After being washed with a protective waterproofing treatment, the operational clothing is dried in a drying cabinet at 74°C with ozone support. PPE dropped off at the laundry in the morning is thus fully operational again by the evening of the same day.
The fire department worked with STAHL Laundry Machinery to set up the optimal programs using a liquid detergent dosing system. This makes operating the commercial washing machine incredibly easy: simply press a button, and the desired wash cycle starts with the exact amount of detergent. This ensures that the quality of the laundry is entirely in the hands of the fire department—another significant advantage, in addition to the enormous time savings.
