The Miesbach Volunteer Fire Department has been in existence since 1868 and handles a wide range of emergencies—from traditional firefighting and rescuing people involved in traffic accidents to the removal of hazardous materials.
Since the city of Miesbach employs a full-time equipment manager for the local fire departments, setting up its own laundry facility made sense: For hygienic reasons, cleaning of the uniforms can begin immediately after a call, and everything is clean again within a few hours. „We decided to set up our own laundry facility because it offers a clear time advantage over commercial laundries. In the past, the uniforms had to be collected and transported. It sometimes took as long as 14 days before we could pick up the cleaned uniforms,“ explains Fire Chief Matthias Resch. A former owner of a local laundry service eventually brought STAHL to the fire department’s attention and put them in touch.
Since 2020, the fire department has been using high-quality machines from STAHL: The Atoll 140 washing machine and the TS 1300 drying cabinet are used to clean operational gear, respirators, respirator straps, rescue and work ropes, and all other washable textiles. Since the machines are operated in the basement of the fire station, the TS 1300 drying cabinet—which runs on 230 volts and requires no exhaust vent—is an excellent fit. In the TS 1300, operational gear dries quickly and reliably even after „wet“ operations, such as flooding or snowfall. Thanks to the ATOLL, the fire department can also meet its respiratory protection needs. „Both systems fit perfectly into our existing space, and the installation effort was minimal,“ says Matthias Resch.
The Miesbach Fire Department sees the flexibility of STAHL’s systems as their greatest advantage. A single wash cycle in one of these machines can clean and waterproof almost everything. In addition, as a German manufacturer, STAHL offered the best value for the money.
