There are various types of clothes dryers on the market. These dryers differ primarily in how the warm air is vented. The most common types of dryers are condenser dryers, heat pump dryers, and vented dryers.
STAHL’s T-Series units are exhaust-air clothes dryers that use a special radial airflow to dry clothes particularly quickly, gently, and thoroughly. The T-Series features a heat exchanger that recycles heat to preheat fresh air. The Eco clothes dryers in the TE Series are ideal for gentle drying. A drying cabinet is particularly recommended for gently drying fabrics that should not be dried in a clothes dryer.
All types of dryers work the same way: Warm air is fed into the stainless-steel drum. The damp laundry inside the drum dries because the heat causes the water to evaporate. The drying process is very energy-intensive in many conventional appliances.
Not with STAHL dryers: The T-Series commercial exhaust-air clothes dryers save 30 percent energy thanks to their unique plate heat exchanger and dry very efficiently through recirculating air. An integrated residual moisture monitor ensures that the dryer runs only as long as necessary and that the laundry isn’t overdried. Good for your wallet and the environment.
Drying cabinets are particularly well-suited for special requirements, such as drying protective clothing for fire departments. There is no rotating drum; the clothing is hung on hangers inside the drying cabinet and is thus dried particularly gently and evenly without any rotational movement of the laundry.
An industrial dryer, also known as a commercial clothes dryer, is a type of clothes dryer specifically designed for use in commercial or industrial settings. These machines are known for their high capacity and efficiency and can dry a large amount of laundry in a single cycle. Industrial dryers are designed to meet the needs of laundries, hotels, workshops, hospitals, and other care facilities that regularly process large volumes of laundry and have specific requirements for hygiene and performance.
Commercial clothes dryers and appliances for residential use can essentially be divided into three main categories: vented dryers, condenser dryers, and heat pump dryers. Vented dryers exhaust moist air to the outside, which requires a vent. Condensation dryers cool the moist air inside the appliance to condense the water and collect it in a container. Heat pump dryers, a type of condensation dryer, use heat pump technology to efficiently utilize heat and keep energy consumption low.
The best type of dryer depends on the requirements of the textiles being dried and the throughput. Space constraints must also be taken into account when selecting a commercial clothes dryer—if exhaust air cannot be vented, a condenser dryer is the right choice. Unlike conventional vented dryers, STAHL’s vented dryers are highly energy-efficient, as STAHL’s models enable economical operation thanks to their built-in plate heat exchanger and recirculating air recovery system. For businesses that require fast turnaround times and high capacities, it is especially important that industrial dryers are high-performance. Special materials, such as protective clothing and equipment used by fire departments, require particularly gentle drying—in this case, a drying cabinet is the best choice.
The time it takes for an industrial dryer to dry laundry can vary depending on the model’s capacity, the moisture content of the laundry, and the selected settings. In general, however, commercial and industrial dryers can dry laundry much faster than household dryers. The average drying time can range from 30 minutes to several hours, though efficient models and optimized drying cycles can minimize this time.
The decision between a condenser dryer and a heat pump dryer depends on various factors. Heat pump dryers are energy-efficient and gentle on fabrics. However, they are also more expensive to purchase and usually take longer to dry the laundry. Condenser dryers are less expensive to purchase and offer more flexibility in placement, since they do not require an exhaust vent. STAHL’s commercial clothes dryers are very energy-efficient: For example, the condenser dryers use an intelligent recirculating air recovery system, which not only protects the environment but also reduces operating costs. As a result, these units offer a flexible yet efficient solution in the field of industrial dryers.
Whether a dryer is an energy hog depends heavily on the model, the technology, and how it is used. Traditional vented dryers and some older condenser dryers can certainly result in high energy costs. Modern industrial dryers and clothes dryers, however, are designed to operate efficiently. Investing in energy-efficient models can significantly reduce operating costs and lower your environmental footprint. STAHL’s clothes dryers are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that protects the environment while minimizing operating costs through the smart and economical use of resources.
